Jim James (from My Morning Jacket) / Rolling Stone magazine, Australia. April 2012.
My portrait of Jim James—and tenth collaboration with Rolling Stone—is finally here. For this occasion I tried to evoke the aesthetics of some forgotten children’s activity book to depict My Morning Jacket’s lead man and the tunes, beats and rhythms that have influenced his work across time.

Barnaby Joyce / FHM
I wasn’t sure who senator Barnaby Joyce was when I was approached by FHM to make a portrait of him for their next issue. The first impression I got was that he looked like the lost siamese twin of Randy Quaid. So naturally, the question arose: Is he as crazy as Dennis Quaid’s delusional older brother?

Chris Badger & Will Edwards
A couple of months ago, I was contacted to produce a portrait of advertising wonder duo Will Edwards and Christ Badger. The idea was to include the illustration as part of a press release announcing their departure from a well-known ad agency to another. And even though this turned out to be a fun gig, I’m still not sure how to feel about the fact that I was specifically contacted due to my proclivity to include unapologetic references in my work to pyromania, poorly handled explosive devices, heroin-addicted monkeys, gore, mental hospices, getaways-gone-wrong and both mental and physical self-inflicted wounds …Oh well, screw it! That was one hell of a compliment. Just throw me those fish heads and I’ll stamp a grin in my pretty face all over again because it seriously makes you wish the rest of your clients were as fond of fortuitous violence as yourself.
